You’re So Crafty

Spreading the crafty love … and love of crafting

Thoughts about Christmas and living it all year long December 23, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — youresocrafty @ 2:31 pm

A dear friend sent this in an email yesterday and it said Author Unknown. So, being the computer person that I think I am, I searched for the text and found it in a McCall’s magazine from 1959. Here’s a link to the full text – http://www.sdanet.org/atissue/Christmas/thoughts-mcalls.htm.

Here’s an excerpt:

THIS CHRISTMAS, mend a quarrel. Seek out a forgotten friend. Dismiss suspicion, and replace it with trust. Write a love letter. Share some treasure. Give a soft answer. Encourage youth. Manifest your loyalty in word and deed. Keep a promise. Find the time. Forgo a grudge. Forgive an enemy. Listen. Apologize if you were wrong. Try to understand. Flout envy. Examine your demands on others. Think first of someone else. Appreciate. Be kind; be gentle. Laugh a little. Laugh a little more. Deserve confidence. Take up arms against malice. Decry complacency. Express your gratitude. Go to church. Welcome a stranger. Gladden the heart of a child. Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth. Speak your love. Speak it again. Speak it still once again.

From all of us at You’re So Crafty – Merry Christmas – and thanks for letting us help you make memories.

What a whirlwind year this has been! How on Earth could it be our 2nd Anniversary!?? Sharon, Tammi, Rebecca and I would like to thank you – from the bottoms of our hearts  for your patronage, support and friendship. We are so grateful to have met so many crafters and are blessed to be included in your memory-making. Kinda funny, huh, that our anniversary is on MEMORIAL Day…..

Before I forget – insert drumroll - from the list of folks who spent at least $25 last month, we drew a name to select a crafter who will be treated to a $100 gift certificate at You’re So Crafty! And the winner was……………. CHRIS MATA!!!!! Congratulations to Chris, who’s a dedicated crafter  and who works at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center. In honor of our 2nd Anniversary, we’re going to hold another drawing in May… so be sure to stop in. No need to fill anything out, just make sure we have your name on your receipt and we’ll do all the ‘work’ at the end of the month.

Speaking of receipts - have you looked at yours lately? There a nifty coupon right at the bottom. It will help you save some crafty cash each time you visit the store! Check it out … I’m not going to tell you what it is! This time, you do the work!

This is so important – Orphan Works Bill October 3, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — youresocrafty @ 11:55 am

From my friend Margot Potter’s blog (she’s so eloquent! and crafty, too!) –
“Oh and while our attention is diverted, some powerful folks who want absolute access to every piece of art, photo or video ever posted on the internet are trying to hijack your art. Yup, they pushed Orphan Works through the Senate under cover of night and now they’re rushing it through the House. Call your representative and tell them that you will not stand for this rape and pillage of the creative output of artists, videographers and photographers. Watch this video. Embed it. Spread the word. Do it NOW! It does matter. It is important. We have to act. We have the right to own our art and no one has the right to profit from our creativity without fair compensation and due credit. Yeah, they really do think we’re that dumb. If they pass this law, anyone who wants to use any art, photography or video you’ve ever posted online for anything they choose, will be free to do so.”

And, in listening to this audio clip, I learned that you will have to PAY to protect your work. Every single doodle mark you make is fair game. This is big, folks. Seriously big.

OMG – we’ve been blogged about! July 6, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — youresocrafty @ 6:45 pm

How exciting!!! I’ve been reading the Seguin (TX) Photo Blog for a while after stumbling on it by searching online for “stuff” about our community. She’s tagged in my Bloglines subscription (LOVE bloglines! – it keeps you major-updated on blog updates with one click) Anyway, back to the point, I clicked today to see what photos she’s posted and WOW! There we were!!

I must say, it was quite exciting! Although a photo always captures stuff you *may* not want to focus on (weeds, flowers that are frying in the hot summer, kinda funky parking lot), it was very cool to see her expert shots and read her very kind words.

Thanks Thien! See you soon! Now go craft something!

Spring fling March 25, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — youresocrafty @ 7:14 am

Between the oak attacking my throat and eyes and the spring ‘fever’ attacking my attitude, it’s really hard this week to stay focused on all the things that are happening right now. But, I will tell you, there’s some fun stuff on the way at You’re So Crafty!

We’re in the final stretch of our National Craft Month celebration and we are kicking off some new classes this week! Knitting 201 is going to be a fun sampler class, and Sweet Treats Quilt class will be so fun and so easy (with Marilyn’s help!)

And a new Quilt Class starts Wednesday, March 26, at 6:15 p.m. – it’s a Sweet Treat Quilt and if you have some basic quilting knowledge, it’s a perfect class for you. When class is over, you’ll have a beautiful quilt for the bed or wall!

Don’t forget to celebrate all the beautiful shapes in nature with our Clay Art class on April 3! And Vicki will be here to help us get organized AND learn a new skill with a woven Hanging Letter Basket! Stop by to see our store samples, have a cup o’ joe with us or just say hi!
New items in stock – cheerleading and gymnastics scrapbooking embellishments and papers.
Lots of WEDDING and NEW BABY items!
New YARN!

What’s a craft store like you doing at a cooking school like this? February 8, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — youresocrafty @ 11:13 am

Well, punny you should ask that. At first thought, one might not think the two are related. Crafting and Cooking? Usually, one suffers because all the attention is given to the other! HA!

But really, creativity is creativity – whether you’re painting, scrapbooking, designing jewelry or cooking. And there’s crossover between crafting and cooking (as in many creative outlets) – making tags or labels for your homemade gifts is a simple way to combine your two loves. Or, have you thought about designing a recipe book for a personalized, and very special, gift? The Accordian Album format is perfect for creating a themed recipe booklet – whip up a booklet full of romantic recipes for the anniversary couple, basic recipes for a young bride, baby food recipes for the exhausted mom … the possibilities are endless. So, we’re headed to the Taste of Home Cooking School on Tuesday, Feb. 19. It’s at the Seguin Coliseum and you can learn more about it at www.seguingazette.com. We’ll have a booth with some fun make-n-takes, and there will be several other vendors on hand, as well. Hope to see you there! In the meantime, keep on craftin’ (just remember to clean the paint out of the brush before you baste that bird!)

Well, here goes … January 8, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — youresocrafty @ 11:10 am

It’s time to jump into the world of blogging!! This will be an easier way to keep up with the “what’s new”-type news on our website. I hope! Although, getting this thing set up was anything but “quick!” ARGH!! I’d rather be knitting, or beading, or doing JUST about ANYthing!!

Another cool thing about an official blog is that if you enjoy reading blogs, there’s a cool site called Bloglines - (thanks, Denise!) and it will keep track of all your blog updates for you!! If you don’t want to go that far into cyberspace, no worries! This blog will be right here when you check back in!And, another cool thing about blogs, is that our teachers can contribute blog columns! So, watch for that! And, another cool think about blogs, is that YOU can comment and leave information here that will help other crafters – maybe tips and tricks, or help us learn more about what you want in your local craft store!

Enough about the techno-crud, let’s talk crafts!

We are excited about the new year and new possibilities – new classes, new inventory, new friends! Check out the calendar and get crackin’ on those new hobbies! Did you know that January is National Hobby Month? How cool is that? I think we should make the whole year National Hobby YEAR!

It’s never to late to learn something new – it’s been proven that learning new things, keeping your mind busy, and having a passion about something will lengthen your life! Long live crafting!
